LISA'S BIOGRAPHY
Lisa Calverley has been dancing for over 40 years and teaching and choreographing for 25 years. She graduated with a diploma in dance from Les Ateliers de Danse Moderne de Montreal, Inc., in Montreal, Quebec (’94.) As well, she has formal training from the Banff School of Fine Arts, L’Ecole Superieure de Danse du Quebec, and the Goh Ballet. She has been a member of Dancestreams Youth Dance Company, the Goh Ballet Company, D’Hersey Dance Company and Stone Soup Dance Company.
She has danced and choreographed for such festivals as, F.I.D.A. festival (Winchester Theatre, Toronto), 12 minutes Max. and Go for Broke Revue (Firehall Arts Center, Vancouver), Dance Explosions (Calgary), Mainly Dance and Regent College Arts Festival (Vancouver). She has performed in a 7 month, 21 city, U.S. tour with the production “Dayuma”. She also performed Cornelieus Fischer-Credo’s, “My Arms Went Numb” (Vancouver, B.C.) and David Earle’s, “Architecture for the Poor” (Victoria, B.C.).
She co-directed, danced and choreographed a site-specific show at the Devonian Gardens (Calgary) called “White Dress Project” and a collaborative show, “Arise”, with Corps Bara Dance Theater (Calgary) and AbdA (Edmonton) in Three Hills, Alberta. She has directed and choreographed year end recitals, with Tria Danceworks, a dance school that she co-directed/co-founded.
She has set 4 pieces, “Sunrise Mass”, ”Trailings/Warp and Weft”, “Season of Mercy” and “Stones Throw (Away)” on Corps Bara Dance Theatre for performances at the Mount Royal Nickel Theatre, University Theater and the Vertigo Theatre in Calgary. She has choreographed many solos for herself, “Dear Potter” and “Time of Salt and Liquid” (’97), "Canticles" (’99), “By His Mark” (’01), “Reaching” (’04), “The Pearl of Great Price” (’04) and “Sojourn” (’05), "Free" ('07), "Ave Verum Corpus" ('10), "Love You Out Loud" ('14) , a Dance/Poetry collaboration, “All Things Lead To This” (’96), and a Dance/Drama collaboration, “Psalm” (’03).
As well as teaching workshops throughout Canada and the U.S.A., Lisa has taught for: Nanci Moretti School of Dance (Montreal), South Delta School of Dance, Caulfield School of Dance (Port Moody), Flora Pigeau School of Dance (Surrey), Shadbolt Center for the Arts (Burnaby), Burnaby Community Center, Campbell River Community Center, Arts Umbrella Summer Intensive (Vancouver), Tria Danceworks (co-founder/co-director) and Danceway 21 (Three Hills). She has choreographed hundreds of student choreographies over the years. She has won over a dozen Choreography Awards in Festivals. As well, her students have won many first place awards in competitions, with the help of her mentorship.
